Just popping in to share a little tip I found on Pinterest. Natural room fresheners! Also know as simmering potpourri! Or maybe this is how you make applesauce and I got it mixed up? :)
Anyway, put a sliced apple, three cinnamon sticks and 1 teaspoon of vanilla in a small saucepan. Cover with water, put it on the back of the stove on low heat and let simmer. Top up with water as needed. I was also thinking I might grab one of the mini crock pots that I see all the time at the thrift stores to use just for this reason. Your house will smell like cozy autumn wonderfulness!!
Just a reminder that tomorrow is anniversary day for Happy Little Cottage and I will be drawing the name for the vintage bunting banner!! Click here if you'd like to join in.
Happy Sunday!
Right now my house smells like bacon. I think I better try this. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteOH I have a little crock pot. I am going to do this today and dream of fall pumpkins and sweaters and hayrides. We are having a record heat wave and I need a break from it. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteblessings to you.
Oooooh can't wait for the results tomorrow! That room-freshener idea is brilliant - I wonder if it would work with lemon instead of apple? Enjoy the rest of the weekend - Yvonne xx
ReplyDeleteHi Yvonne!! I can't wait to try this one....1 lemon sliced, 2 t. vanilla and 2 sprigs rosemary...
DeleteI've been doing this for years, right after I discovered how great the house smelled after I'd made a batch of spiced apple cider! You can vary according to season with fresh herbs from the garden. Mint can be really peppy! It is a great way, too, of using up any essential oils you might have that are past using as holistic or aromatherapy treatments. I think it is a wonderful way to home fragrance!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah! I have mint in the garden that is going crazy!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm really excited about tomorrows give away, even if I dont win I'm still really excited for whoever does! :D The room fragrance sounds really nice, I'm not sure if it would work or not but I wonder if rose petals would be too subtle of if they would create a nice floral smell?
ReplyDeleteJerra xx
I like this idea and apple and cinnamon is a wonderful combination. Great idea to use a mini hot pot - I'll look out for one.
ReplyDeletethat sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm.......I can smell it from here.............;)))
ReplyDeleteOh my...I must try this.
ReplyDeleteSo easy and I'll bet it smells like apple pie! Thanks for sharing this. xx
ReplyDeleteJust got to try this Debbie......I can't use a lot of the plug in air fresheners that are on the market as I'm allergic to them tut!!! Willie Shakespeare (the cat) is an indoors cat and I have this obsession about the house smelling of cat so at present I use incense when I detect a feline whiff. Unfortunately I didn't like it the other day when my daughter commented that the house smelt like a drugs den!!!! Personally I thought the cherry incense was rather nice.
ReplyDeleteSo going to give this a go...do so love natural fruity smells!!!
Amanda :-)
I love this idea! I even have one of those little crock pots. I cannot wait to give this a try. Also thinking of using oranges instead of the apples with some cloves. YUM YUM. Thank you so much again for the INSPIRATION!!!
ReplyDeleteI've used oranges, cinnamon, cloves, etc. in Winter for a yummy room scent...so much better than fake scents.
