Posy Garden Blog Tour

Hello there! I am super excited to be a part of the Posy Garden Blog Tour!! In case you don't know, Posy Garden is the latest fabric designed by the amazing Carina Gardner for Riley Blake Designs.

I've had the pleasure of sewing with this fabric for most of the summer, and there couldn't be a prettier fabric to sew with!

A million ideas went through my mind and I really wanted to make all the the things! But I knew for sure that I wanted to make a Sew Together Bag with this adorable fabric.

My favorite part of making Sew Together Bags is designing the exterior. The insides are always pretty much the same, but the exterior can be almost anything you would like. It's a fun way to play with patchwork on a small scale. I used 3" mini granny squares to start with, and added cute patchwork borders. I really love the navy blue as binding.

I also made a baby quilt using this pattern. I found out that a friend of mine is going to have a sweet baby granddaughter, and her daughter's favorite colors just happen to be all the colors of Posy Garden. Pinwheels on a crisp white background is possibly one of my most favorite quilt designs.

I added a 2.5" border all the way around and once again I used my favorite wavy quilting and am happy with the texture and feel of the quilt.

I used the navy blue dot as a binding on the quilt too! It keeps it from being too girly and little more modern. Just like the baby's mama!

Sew & Sew Sew Together Bag

Hi Everyone! I know today was supposed to be the next step of the Weekender Bag sew along, but I'm going to be honest and say I am still in the planning stages!  Between work, pool weather and watching the Cleveland Cavs finals (WE WON!!), I haven't done much with my bag. Sorry. But I wanted to share something that I did sew!!

Have you seen the new cute adorable fabric from Chloe's Closet for Moda called Sew & Sew? The colors are just so fresh and summery and lovely, and I knew right away that I wanted to make a sew together bag with cute patchwork print.

This is my first time making a non-patchwork exterior for a bag, and it took almost half the time to put together. Look at that cute tape measure print!! So fun as a binding!

I ordered 5 different half yards, and have enough fabric to make a few more bags. A tote bag might be in my near future.

I promise to get started on my Weekender Bag, and I will post on Wednesday with the cutting and sewing the panels part of our sew along! I think Chrissy is way ahead of me :)

Great Granny Twist Blog Hop

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!! One more week to finish up your Christmas gifts and I am so happy to be able to share a few ideas that you might want to use. I'm also super excited to be a part of the Great Granny Twist Blog Hop !!  I just love sewing along with Miss Bee.

If you have the book, you know that the Great Granny Square is made up of 4 generations of squares: the baby, the mama, the granny and the great granny. If you don't have the book go here right this very second :)

I have had so much fun sewing cute things from this book over the past few years. I made a table topper with the mama size blocks, but the whole point of this blog tour is to use the blocks in unexpected ways and give them a little twist!

I had some scraps of adorable Christmas fabric that I didn't want to waste and I decided to make three cute baby blocks and make a sew together bag. I used 1 1/2" squares to start, and my blocks ended up at an adorable 3" (finished). Little Joys fabric can be found here.

Great Granny Squared is full of really fun projects, and thanks to this blog tour, you now have inspiration to make so many more things! Lori's directions are so complete and fool proof, and really are beginner friendly!!

Daysail (or how I got my "sewjo" back)

 

I've been in a bit of a sewing slump lately which I really hate. I started looking through my fabrics and decided to play with some Daysail. If Bonnie and Camille can't get you out of a sewing funk, nothing can. I decided to revisit the cathedral window pincushion. I haven't made one of these in forever. I made one and my sewjo was back.

I made another pincushion so that I had a pair.

And then i started a mini Sew Together bag. I added some blue polka dot that I found at Joann's and was instantly in love with the red, white and blue.

This is my fifth Sew Together bag and my first mini, and they get easier and more fun to make each time. I love making scrappy pockets and colorful zippers and patchwork on the outside.

This one is a gift for someone special, and I have two more in the works. My sewing machine is happy to see me again!

Sew Together

One of the things I love most about the blogland and instagram is all of the amazingly talented people who love to share what they make. One item that kept popping up was the sew together bag. I was really intrigued, but totally scared of the idea of 4 (FOUR) zippers. But the bag was calling my name. I was up for the challenge.

One of the most enjoyable parts of making this bag is choosing fabric. You know I love happy scrappy, so I started pulling thought ALL of my Bonnie and Camille scraps. Bliss, Ruby, Vintage Modern, Marmalade, Happy Go Lucky and Scrumptious are all part of this bag.

The zippers had to be scrappy too!

The pattern design is very clever, but to be honest, without the sew along by The Quilt Barn, I don't think I would have been able to finish this. I am a total visual learner, and the pattern had very few diagrams and photos. The pattern is called the Sew Together Bag and you can purchase it on Craftsy.

The pattern calls for machine binding, but this was such a small project that I decided to hand stitch the binding. I love the way it looks. The Ruby Sundae print is one of my favorite binding prints.....ever. Someone commented on Instagram and said I needed some Clover clips, my little budget clippies work just fine :)

I think I love the inside of the bag almost as much as the outside. It was so much fun to play with so many of my favorite fabrics, and use up some of the scraps from my scrap bins. The cute little label is from my dear sweet friend Christina, who makes these cute little labels and sells them in her adorable shop Emily Ann's Kloset.

I enjoyed making this from start to finish, and I am no longer afraid of zippers. I may or may not have made another bag, and have one more in the works....
