A Sweet Thing

I've been working with The Sweetest Thing fabric since last year making lots and lots of bunting banners for my shop, but a customer requested a Dresden Plate pillow. So happy that I didn't say no.

This is a 14" pillow form, so it will be adorable in her little girl's room. The back is a simple envelope closure done in white kona cotton to match the front.

Dresden plates may be my favorite thing to make. They are such a great way to play with colors and prints and I LOVE the happy flower design.

Do you have a favorite design that you never tire of making???

  1. This Dresden plate pillow is beautiful, love the colors of fabric. I love making little fabric hearts that say "Love you bunches" - they make wonderful gifts for girlfriends who are dealing with one thing or another. Just opened an Etsy shop recently, wanted to ask how you "fill" your pillows? I've used pillow forms but somehow the pillows (using exact measurements) are always a little small for the cover I've made. Suggestions? Thanks.

    1. Mary -
First let me say I am NOT a pillow expert and I don't know if this would work for you, but when I make a pillow I cut my front and back to the EXACT size of the form...14", 16", etc....no extra for seam allowances. It seems to constrict the pillow enough for a "full" look. You could try this just by sewing at the pillow size and leaving the rest as your seam allowance so you could unpick it if you are not happy with the result. The first pillow I EVER made had three lines of stitching, each moving in just a smidge until I was happy with how the form fit, lol.

  3. I am torn between log cabin and flying geese blocks, they seem to wriggle into most of my projects if only on the backs. I am a fan of bright and pretty aprons and a log cabin block makes a perfect bib and flying geese make lovely pockets.

Right now, my wrists hurt from making yo yos! I tend to go overboard. :)

  5. Hi Debbie how lovely is this - wow! Had a go at the dresden plate myself but it wasn't very good at all so it put me off - I am not a natural sewer but I do love the patterns and colours you have chosen, they are gorgeous. A great post as always Debbie, thanks so much
